A Healthy Diet -- Food Pyramid

Obesity now a day has become so common and increasing the risk even in children too. This is basically due to a number of lifestyle factors. People who develop healthy eating habits in childhood are more likely to maintain these habits in later life. Parents and elders should encourage good eating habits from early ages to save their kids from being a victim of obesity.

Understanding the food types and the calories and intake is very important to maintain a perfect balanced diet.

Foods fit into 5 different Food Types:
1. Breads, Cereals and Potatoes
2. Fruits and Vegetables
3. Milk and Dairy Products
4. Meat, Fish and Others
5. Foods containing Fat, Oils and Sugar
Most of us have heard about the food pyramid? For those of you who don’t know, the food pyramid is carefully drawn up plan of exactly what the human body needs nutritionally.

Breads, Cereals and Potatoes along with Fruits and Vegetables have Carbohydrate, along with Vitamins and Minerals. These food types are good to consume regularly.

Milk, Dairy Products, and Meat and Fish contains more of Protein and other Vitamins and Minerals, Calcium. We need these types of foods to grow –bones and our muscles. These food types should be consumed regularly.

Foods that contain Fat, Oils and Sugars include things like Butter, Crisps and Chips. These food types make up the top of the food pyramid and should be eaten sparingly.

A healthy diet is one that contains a variety of different food types, and different foods from the same food type.
